Support for Losing a Pet
Often our society does not understand the impact of losing a beloved pet. Sometimes we are reluctant to express our grief, knowing that people will find it difficult to understand and support our loss. People may say, "You should be over this by now," or "You can always get another pet to replace the one you lost." We know that it's not quite as easy as that. Often our pet has been part of our lives for many years, a member of our families. Many of our pets come into our lives as young puppies. Through the years, we watch them grow and develop, capturing our hearts along the way. They become an integral, all-important part of our lives. When we lose a beloved pet, whether through illness, accident, euthanasia, or the pet is missing, the loss can be devastating.

The Bereavement Center, part of the Hospice Family of Services, offers support groups and individual counseling for those who have suffered the loss of a pet. Often we do not know where to turn for help in dealing with these difficulties. The Bereavement Center can provide that help. Facilitated by trained professionals, support groups and individual counseling provide a safe, supportive environment where you can find ways to cope with your grief.

For additional information, please call our Bereavement Specialist, Emma Tate, at: 845-473-2273 ext. 1145.
